CFD’s Allen, Nolan First in State to Graduate from MUFRTI

Chillicothe Fire Department’s Captain Derrick Allen and Lieutenant Jonathon Nolan are the first in the state to graduate from the University of Missouri Fire Training Institutes (MUFRTI) Fire Officer Certificate program. The program is designed to be completed over three years and includes almost 300 hundred hours of leadership and technical skill courses. MUFRTI representatives recently came to Chillicothe Fire Department (CFD) to present the certification.

Decision Day held

Decision Day was held May 3 for Chillicothe High School seniors. Decision Day celebrates seniors’ post-secondary plans to enroll in college, enter the military or go straight into the workforce and helps kick-start a plan for seniors who have not yet decided. The program encourages seniors to finalize and follow through on their plans for the future.

New bridge now open on Linn County Route 139

The new Lewis Creek Bridge on Linn County Route 139, approximately 1 mile north of Meadville, is now open after closing for replacement in February. According to a press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) this marks the fourth bridge completed as part of the Fixing Access to Rural Missouri (FARM) Bridge Program, a design-build contract that will replace 31 poor condition bridges across northern Missouri. Lehman-Wilson was named the contractor for the program.

New USDA Program to Support Second Harvest Community Food Bank

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Missouri State Director Kyle Wilkens recently announced the establishment of a program under President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan to expand rural hospitals and providers’ access to COVID-19 vaccines, testing, and supplies, while helping rural health care providers stay financially solvent in the long-term. The initial awards of the Emergency Rural Health Care Grants will benefit two rural Missouri entities in Texas County and parts of Northwest Missouri.

CMS Special Olympics Team Headed To Regional Track Meet

Chillicothe Middle School (CMS) members of our Special Olympics team, along with student members from Chilliothe High School and Dewey Elementary, will head to Carrollton on May 5 for the regional Special Olympics track meet. This is the first event with the organization in a long while, and coaches, staff and administrators look to grow the program eventually to include bowling and basketball.
