Impaired Waters

The Thompson River, Weldon River and No Creek located in Harrison, Mercer, Grundy, Daviess and Livingston counties in Northwest Missouri have reached a level of E. coli pollution that they have been placed on Missouri’s 303(d) list of “Impaired Waters” with a “High” level of concern. E. coli is present in feces and can be an indicator that other, more dangerous bacteria, may be present. Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) reports that most of this pollution on these water bodies is coming from agricultural runoff.

Dewey named Gold Star School

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has announced eight Missouri Gold Star Schools for 2022 and Chillicothe’s Dewey Elementary School is one of them. The program, which aligns with the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, recognizes schools for outstanding academic achievement or for performing at high levels while serving a significant proportion of disadvantaged students.

LCSO reports retirement of K-9 Zaki

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) has announced the retirement of K-9 Zaki. “The LCSO with support from our amazing community raised funds in 2014 and 2015 to purchase to implement a K-9 program with the sheriff’s office,” Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox said in a press release.

NCMC Students Inducted into Phi Theta Kappa

North Central Missouri College (NCMC) inducted students into Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) National Honor Society membership for spring 2022. New members include Emma Angel, Laddonia; Katie Basham, Braymer; Carli Beck, Gallatin; Kacey Booth, Arvada, Colo.; Kailey Caldwell, Winston; Trystn Dunks, Jamesport’ Brianna Filley, Gallatin; Jaysa Goodin, Princeton; Christina Gray, Hamilton; Mallory Greiwe, Madison; Darrien Grooms, Hamilton; Arissa Jackson, Lathrop; Justice Matthes, Trenton; Kaylee Munson, Chillicothe; Aubrey Nelson, Gallatin; Zephyr Palmer, North Salem; Kolbin Paxton, Gower; Mayanna Weed, Chillicothe; Shelby Williams, Trenton; and Lexi Wyant, Jamesport. Those present were honored and recognized at an induction ceremony held on April 19.
