State Rep. Risty Black has announced he is running for Missouri State Senate for the newly formed Senate District 12 which includes 15 counties including Chariton, Linn, Livingston, Sullivan, parts of Carroll, Caldwell, Buchanan and other counties in north west Missouri.
Chillicothe voters are being asked to vote “Yes” twice for a Brighter Future for Chillicothe R-II students. On the April 5 ballot voters will find two questions, Questions A and B.

Several Chillicothe R-II staff members received good news last Wednesday morning when Superintendent Dr. Dan Wiebers, Chillicothe Education Foundation (CEF) President Ed Douglas, and CEF Board member Susan Fair surprised them with certificates naming them winners of the 2021-22 Mini Grant Winners for the second semester.
The Linn County Democrat Club held their March 17, meeting at the Marceline J & J on Main Street bar and grill. Carrollton County Democrat Central Committee Chairman Michael Decker was guest speaker. Club members voted to provide a $300 scholarship to each of the five Linn County schools.
McCoy Samples Mattingly Dental Clinic’s (MSMDC) Dr Emily Mattingly was named on the American Dental Association’s (ADA) Top 10 under 10 dentists. According to a press release, The ADA 10 Under 10 Award honors dentistry’s rising stars: dentists who are making an impact in the profession less than 10 years after graduating from dental school.
There are two types of liver flukes found in the United States that affect cattle. One is known as the common liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica). It is predominately located in the Gulf Coast states and the Pacific Northwest. The other is known as the deer fluke or the giant liver fluke (Fascioloides magna). It is found in certain areas of the Gulf Coast, southern Atlantic seaboard, Rocky Mountain trench, Pacific Northwest and is widespread throughout the upper Great Lakes. It has also been identi fied in Missouri. Records from the University of Missouri Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory indicate that deer flukes were identified in livestock as early as January of 2011. However, by December of 2021 a limited number of additional cases had been reported. Most of these cases are from counties that lie north of Interstate 70 and along and east of Highway 63. Local veterinarians continue to be the best source of information on the presence and distribution of the fluke within an area. Veterinarians in regions that border the affected area should be on the lookout in case the population is expanding.
Linn County Farm Bureau Board met Thursday, March 17, in Brookfield. Attending were Marc and Brooke Zell, Dana Lane, Brian Ehrich, Steve and Jill Hardy, Hannah Kiehl, Holly Switzer, Caleb Henke, Donald Herring and Rachaeel Osterman.
The application deadline to be recognized as a 2022 Missouri Century Farm is May 1. To qualify, the same family must have owned the farm for 100 consecutive years.
