Pandemic fears are fading along with omicron: AP-NORC poll

Omicron is fading away, and so are Americans’ worries about COVID-19. As coronavirus pandemic case numbers, hospitalizations and deaths continue to plummet, fewer people now than in January say they are concerned that they will be infected after the rise and fall of the wildly contagious virus variant, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

The Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act, known as the “Pittman-Robertson Act” was passed in 1937 to provide federal funds for state management of wildlife. The money is collected from an 11 percent excise tax on sporting arms, ammunition, bows, arrows, and their parts and accessories. Meaning, every time someone buys guns, bullets or archery equipment, they are contributing to the pool of money distributed across the country to take care of wildlife and wild places.

Historically Yours: In the beginning … From discontented colonists to the United States of America

Contrary to history books, the United States of America didn’t begin functioning as a nation on July 4, 1776. It was a gradual process beginning with discontented colonists in the 1760s, to acts of defiance until war broke out in 1775, followed by the Declaration of Independence in 1776, and finally the Constitution as passed by the constitutional convention on September 17, 1787. It took until June 21, 1788, for the Constitution to be ratified. At that time, Congress set elections to take place from Monday, December 15, 1788, through Saturday, January 10, 1789, with the new government to begin on Wednesday, March 4, 1789.

Get new MDC booklets on hunting, fishing, Wildlife Code

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds Missouri hunters, trappers, anglers, and others they can get free copies of its updated booklets on 2022 Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information, Summary of Missouri Hunting and Trapping Regulations, Summary of Missouri Fishing Regulations, and the Wildlife Code of Missouri beginning in mid-March at MDC regional offices, MDC nature centers, and other places where permits are sold. The handy booklets have information on related permits, seasons, species, regulations, limits, conservation areas, sunrise and sunset tables, and more.
