Chillicothe Announces Christmas Tree Disposal and Recycling Options

The Chillicothe Street Department has scheduled curbside pickup for live Christmas trees on Monday, Jan. 13, and Monday, Jan. 27. Residents should place their trees at the curb, ensuring they are not in the street. All decorations, including tinsel, garland, lights, ornaments, and stands, must be removed. Artificial trees will not be accepted.

Wreaths Across America Day In Livingston County

Wreaths Across American Day was celebrated in Livingston County on Dec. 14, 2024, courtesy of the Olive Prindle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. DAR Regent Diane Kerns and members Mary Underwood and Sara Gillilan spearheaded the project. The DAR was joined at the courthouse square by the Livingston County Veterans Association, the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary members, and Mayor Theresa Kelly, in placing a large wreath on the Livingston County Veterans Memorial and Courthouse Scrolls of veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Smaller wreaths were placed at the memorial in memory of those killed in action and of those taken prisoner of war.

New Year Brings Blizzard

The new year began with a blizzard. Last weekend most of the state of Missouri was under a blizzard warning, with the local area seeing between 9-11 inches of snow. Other parts of the state battled icy conditions after getting a wintry mix then inches of snow.

Public Works Approves Use of “Hot Sockets”

The Chillicothe Board of Public Works has approved a new procedure to address potential issues with electric meter bases, commonly known as “hot sockets.” General Manager Matt Hopper explained that customers will soon receive a letter outlining the process to follow if their meter detects a problem with the meter base—the component where the electric meter connects to a home or business.

Deadline is Feb. 28 for Nominations for Missouri Public Safety Medals Honoring Heroic First Responders and Civilians

The Department of Public Safety is accepting nominations for the State of Missouri’s highest awards honoring first responders who took heroic actions beyond the call of duty in 2024. The awards are the Red, White and Blue Heart Award, Missouri Medal of Valor, and Governor’s Medal. DPS is also accepting nominations from Missouri public safety agencies for the Public Safety Civilian Partnership Award. The awards will be presented during a ceremony in Jefferson City in late 2025.
