Got plans Memorial Day weekend? Missouri has a lot to offer with its state parks, lakes, sporting events, and attractions. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reminds everyone to include safety when they plan their holiday weekend. Expect more travelers on Missouri’s roadways and an increase in boating traf"c on the stateis lakes and rivers. Drivers and boat operators are reminded to follow all Missouri’s laws and be courteous. Always wear a seat belt when traveling in a vehicle and wear a life jacket when near, on, or in the water.
The North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance (NMSA) and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will be hosting their annual free Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 4, at the pond located on the west side of the Baptist Home in north Chillicothe.
The Chillicothe High School class of 2023 graduation ceremony was held Sunday, May 14, in the CHS gymnasium, with 137 students receiving their diplomas this year. The class of 2023 has 46 students planning to attend a four-year university or college, 35 attending a two-year college, and 15 planning to attend a vocational or trade school, 4 students are joining the military, and 34 are immediately entering the workforce.
The Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau held its ribbon cutting at the Home of Sliced Bread Welcome Center to celebrate the new location, just in time for National Travel & Tourism week. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Amy Supple presented seven Tourism Mini Grants to local groups that help encourage people to visit Chillicothe. The recipients include:
North Central Missouri College (NCMC) students Alyvia “Livi” Binkley and Raven Moreno recently saved the life of a man, Scott Lowe, at the Stacy Center by performing life-saving measures. Raven and Livi were working out at the Stacy Center in Princeton, when Scott, jogging on the treadmill, suddenly fell, passed out, and stopped breathing. Raven and Livi immediately called 911, jumped in, and started doing CPR while shouting for the AED. Raven and Livi assisted with placing the AED and continued CPR measures until an ambulance arrived. Raven and Livi were also assisted by community members Dereck Power and Kyle Berndt. By the time EMTs arrived, the group had Scott Lowe breathing and a pulse again. After being life-flighted, he was awake and alert and is now home and doing well.
FREE HEALTH SERVICES. On June 8 the Livingston County Health Department will be at the Ludlow Ball Field to do blood pressure checks and/ or administer tetanus shots free of charge. You can also catch a couple baseball games while you are there! The Health Department will be there starting at 6 p.m.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS AVAILABLE Absentee ballots are now available in the Livingston County Clerk’s office for the June 6 Special Election. Anyone needing to vote absentee may contact the county clerk’s office to inquire about the process.
