Green Hills Expanding Fiber Internet to unserved rural areas

Green Hills Communications (Green Hills) has announced that it has been awarded over $6.2 million in a broadband expansion grant through Missouri’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Broadband Infrastructure Grant Program that will be used to bring fiber optic broadband service into Hamilton and Braymer, two rural Caldwell County communities currently lacking in sufficient broadband service. The new expansion will include approximately 56 miles of buried fiber to reach more than 1300 residential homes, businesses, farms, and anchor institutions inside the city limits of Braymer and Hamilton.

Missouri Corn scholarship applications due Feb. 10

The deadline is quickly approaching for Missouri agriculture students interested in applying for a 2023 Missouri Corn Scholarship. High school and college students pursuing a career in agronomy or other agriculture-related field must submit the necessary forms no later than Feb. 10 to be eligible for one of seven $1,000 scholarships sponsored by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council.

Bishop Hogan celebrates National Catholic Schools Week

Bishop Hogan Memorial School is celebrating National Catholic Schools Week, January 28-February 3. Catholic Schools Week is an opportunity for us to showcase the importance of Catholic education and to recognize the many people that contribute to our school with their good examples of leadership, with hours of volunteering, with financial support and with the partnership at home. The theme for this year is “Catholic Schools: Faith, Academics, Service. These three components are intertwined as we work to develop the whole child and help them succeed with qualities that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Free Federal & State Tax Preparation

The AARP Tax-Aide program will again this year provide free federal and state tax preparation for taxpayers with low-to-moderate incomes. There is no age limit. Of special interest for seniors is the Missouri Property Tax Credit where certain individuals may be eligible to receive up to $1,100 for real estate taxes paid or $750 for rent paid.
