For some, Father’s Day is cookouts and neckties. It’s phone calls and corny jokes. It’s awkward hugs and “thanks for always being there” kind of moments. But for others — for the ones who scroll past the Father’s Day sales and the heartwarming posts with a lump in their throat — the day hits differently. This is one of my many firsts without my Dad.
CHILLICOTHE — Thwarted by the weather last weekend, the North Missouri Sportman’s Alliance (NMSA) and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) have rescheduled their annual free Kids Fishing Derby to Saturday, June 28, reports Steve Shoot, president of the NMSA.

CHILLICOTHE - The Livingston County Preservation Society invites the public to attend a special ceremony honoring the newest inductee into the Chillicothe Hall of Fame: Jerry Litton. The unveiling event will take place on Friday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the Sliced Bread Innovation Center, located at 100 Elm Street, Chillicothe.
On Sunday, April 20, the Surbers met at the Meadville Community Center for their annual Easter gathering. Forty-one descendants and guests enjoyed a carry-in lunch and visiting. After lunch, the youngest generation enjoyed an Easter egg hunt.
Apparently content with “keeping their powder dry” for the approaching Midland Empire Conference Championships and postseason meets, Chillicothe High School’s track-and-field Hornets contented themselves with second- and third-place team finishes in meets it seemed they readily could have won last week.
CHILLICOTHE - At its recent meeting, the Chillicothe City Council approved the installation of an access control and video surveillance system for the city’s new law enforcement building housing the Chillicothe Police Department. Proceeding with the purchase now of the equipment would secure current pricing and avoid potential cost increases due to tariffs. The current presented cost for services and products is $103,215.
CHILLICOTHE - The Chillicothe Planning and Zoning Board is scheduled to meet on Mon., May 5 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The meeting will commence with the election of new board officers.
Chillicothe High School’s track-and-field Hornets continued their strong early season last week, backing up their team title in their own Chillicothe Joe Shy Relays with another crown in the “Hoot” Middleton Relays at Richmond April 15.
