SEDALIA — A solid Chillicothe High School boys’ golf season brimming with future promise dropped into the cup on the final hole Tuesday as sophomores Jackson Trout and James Mathew completed play in the Class 3 state tournament with mid-pack finishes.
With nine coming off district-meet wins, members of Chillicothe High School’s track-and-field squads are at Odessa today, aspiring to place in the top four in their 20 total events in the Class 3 sectional meet and thus qualify for next Friday’s and Saturday’s state championships at Jefferson City.
Jayden Keller is a young lady with big dreams. And the soon-to-be freshmen at Brookfield High School is well on her way to attaining those dreams at the young age of 14.
Missouri’s spring wild turkey season closed on May 8 with 33,355 birds checked in, 1,557 more than last year’s total of 31,798, which was the smallest harvest in more than 30 years. The earlier youth-only turkey season also resulted in a slight increase over last year’s total, with 2,896 turkeys checked in, just 101 more than in 2021.

INDEPENDENCE — Although senior No. 1 player Chace Corbin will continue practicing through the middle of the coming week before heading to next Friday’s Class 1 singles state tournament, the fine 2022 season for the rest of the Chillicothe High School tennis Hornets came to a quick close last Monday in the opening round of the team state tournament.
ST. JOSEPH — A 2022 season which began with a lot of veterans returning from a district-championship team, but with some pitching concerns and one experienced player already kayoed by an injury, sputtered to a stop last Monday for the Chillicothe High School baseball Hornets.
There apparently is something about the challenge and pressure of district track-andfield meet competition that agrees with Chillicothe High School Lady Hornets junior Hope Helton. And she apparently has shared her “secret” with a classmate.
From Russell Wilson playing his first game as a Bronco in Seattle to Doug Pederson vs. Carson Wentz, the NFL schedule is filled with spicy matchups from the outset. Too bad we have to wait four months for it all to begin. And it should begin with a bang. The Seahawks prospered like never before with Wilson as their quarterback for the last decade, including a Super Bowl title and another they should have had if not for some, uh, curious play calls in the 2015 game.
