MARCELINE — The Marceline High School football Tigers apparently chose to play the 2021 postseason under an alias mascot – the Eagles. Their district-championship game and state quarterfinal and last Saturday’s 31-30 semifinal victory over Hayti the past three weeks – all at MHS’ Chester Ray Stadium – took that famed music group’s mid-1970s musical admonition “take it to the limit one more time” to the extreme.

While this week marks the all-out charge into the 2021-22 high school basketball season for the dozen-plus area schools from the Carroll-Livingston Activity Association and various other regional conferences, about half of them got in a game or two in the week leading up to Thanksgiving.

As seemed as inevitable as the back-and-forth sway of grandfather clock’s hanging weight, the results pendulum swung back well past center for the Chillicothe High School football Hornets in 2021, their first season under the oversight of first-time head coach Chad Smith.
