CHS Girls Shakily Extended Season Monday

ST. JOSEPH — Clearly off their recent form, the Chillicothe High School basketball Lady Hornets were in major danger of having their superb season end in their opening postseason outing Monday when St. Joseph: Lafayette, pesky through the first three quarters, exploded with a 13-2 surge in the first 5:02 of the fourth to vault to within three points of the favored Lady Hornets.

Area Teams Dispatched Quickly from State Cage Tourney

State-tournament participation came and went rapidly this past week for the five C-T-area squads which battled their way to district championships the week before. Exiting in the first round of their respective classifications’ state tourneys were the Tina-Avalon, Linn County and Polo girls and Braymer’s and Mendon: Northwestern’s boys (see separate articles for recaps of the T-A and Braymer contests).

Braymer Boys Escape Early Gopher Hole, But Fall by 23 in State Debut

ST. JOSEPH — Facing an accomplished, experienced opponent with a lot of quickness and jumping ability, Braymer High School basketball Bobcats head coach Aaron Emmanuel logically opted to concentrate his team’s defensive game plan for the Green City Gophers around trying to limit dribble and pass penetration of and around the lane and forcing them to prove they could hit perimeter jump shots in the squads’ opening-round matchup in the Class 1 state tournament.
