In the grand scheme of things – even within the context of their 2021-22 season, the Chillicothe High School basketball Lady Hornets’ regular-season finale against visiting Maryville last Thursday wasn’t a significant importance.
MEADVILLE — The Linn County High School basketball Lady Mustangs punctuated the “upset the apple cart” plot line of the Class 1 District 12 tournament last Thursday as two No. 2 seeds walked away with the top prizes – district crowns and a chance to play last night in the state tournament.

Having parlayed dynamite defense and improving offense into an unexpectedly-outstanding regular season they had a chance to cap two nights ago by claiming a one-third share of the Midland Empire Conference title, Chillicothe High School’s 2021-22 basketball Hornets will see whether they can carry that success over into the postseason, starting today.
The area’s Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge will reopen to the public next Saturday, March 5. The refuge is closed each year from late October to the first Saturday in March to provide undisturbed habitat for migrating and wintering waterfowl, the primary purpose for its construction many years ago.
While not quite as emphatic or extended as in their first meeting, another Chillicothe High School basketball Lady Hornets first-half run against the Cameron Lady Dragons was just as effective in letting the Lady Hornets cry, “Blackjack” at the end of this past Tuesday’s second clash between the Midland Empire Conference squads.
