Swan Lake to Reopen March 5

The area’s Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge will reopen to the public next Saturday, March 5. The refuge is closed each year from late October to the first Saturday in March to provide undisturbed habitat for migrating and wintering waterfowl, the primary purpose for its construction many years ago.

Shorthanded Hornets Marshal New Forces to Win At Marshall

MARSHALL — No one likely would describe the 2021-22 Chillicothe High School basketball Hornets team as “dazzling,” in terms of playing style. Its 16-7 overall record and status as co-leader (in the “losses” column, at least) of the Midland Empire Conference also is not eye-popping for some, even though it likely rates as a significant overachievement of most preseason analysis of their “ceiling.”

Southwest Livingston Squads Start Postseason Successfully

Southwest Livingston’s teams both tasted postseason high school basketball success last Saturday after regular seasons with twice as many losses as victories. The Wildcats, seeded much lower than an opponent they bested in their only regular-season meeting, not only defeated host Tina-Avalon for a second time, but did it by 19 points this time, as play commenced in the Class 1 District 13 tournament at Tina-Avalon School.

Basketball Lady Hornets Start, Stay Strong, Cage Kirksville Short-suited CHS boys gunned down by KHS sniping Wednesday

While it wasn’t a full-fledged rerun – the distaff opponent was much too capable to be blown out, there were clear similarities to their prior evening’s play at St. Joseph: Lafayette when Chillicothe High School basketball teams split a home doubleheader with annual non-conference foe Kirksville Wednesday night.

Snagging Season Coming up Soon

Missouri’s 2021-22 hunting seasons have closed, except for the Light Goose Conservation Order season and the almost-yeararound open season on coyotes, so hunters are, at least temporarily, having to find other outdoor activities until the 2022-23 seasons begin with the opening of spring turkey season in April.
