The Carroll-Livingston Activity Association’s regularseason championship race in high school boys’ basketball gained sharper focus and clarity last night. The girls’ race had the potential to become more muddled.
LAWSON — When, with Thursday’s game knotted a 29-29 through three quarters Chillicothe High School basketball Hornets junior guard Griff Bonderer figuratively put the team on his back and carried it into the championship contest of last week’s Lawson Invitational tournament via a 46-39 victory over second-seeded West Platte.
Having seen enough of this season’s Lawson Lady Cardinals basketball team during their recent visit to Chillicothe and having coached against LHS coach Lisa Glenn numerous times during his 7-plus seasons as head coach of CHS’ Lady Hornets, Darren Smith had not a whit of surprise to find Lawson well-prepared mentally and welldeployed physically in an effort to score a big upset when the teams matched up for a second time in 10 days in last Thursday’s championship semifinals of the Lawson Invitational tournament.
BROOKFIELD — With multiple lineup gaps, Chillicothe High School’s wrestling Hornets had a tough go of it in their dual matches against host Brookfield and Gallatin last Thursday (in what turned out to be their final action of the week), but they somehow managed to squeeze a split out of the results.
