Trout Stands Out at State, Is First CHS Boys’ Golfer to Medal Since ’08

Was tied for sixth after first-round 76 last week; fellow CHS junior Mathew ties for 34th NEW BLOOMFIELD — For the first time in 15 years, a Chillicothe High School golf Hornet earned a state-tournament medal early last week. Following his sharp play in the district tournament the week before, where he finished fourth individually, junior Jackson Trout carded a 36-holes total of only 158 in the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 2 Championship at the Meadow Lake Acres Country Club course May 15-16.

Bugged ’Til the End, Soccer Lady Hornets Blanked in Finale

CAMERON — It was a fitting, if unsatisfying, ending for the 2023 Chillicothe High School soccer Lady Hornets. Despite spending a hefty portion of the final 40-plus minutes generating pushes into the offensive third of the David Goodwin Field pitch, a season- long glitch in being able to drive the ball into the opponent’s net when facing solid opponents permanently sidelined the Hornets May 15.

Scrappy to End, Young Baseball Hornets Fall in District Opener

LATHROP — With a relatively-young and inexperienced squad in 2023, Chillicothe High School’s baseball Hornets had their difficulties – especially as the season wore on and they consistently faced more-seasoned clubs from solid programs – in collecting victories. To their credit, however, both from the game and season perspective, they never stopped trying and battling, right down to the final out of their final game – a 5-3 Class 4 District 16 tournament semifinal setback – last Wednesday.

Braymer Sprinters, Repeat Champ Singer, Southwest’s Holt Shine at State

JEFFERSON CITY — A bevy of C-T-area Class 1 high school trackand- field athletes had a highly-successful weekend at Jefferson City last Friday and Saturday in the 2023 Missouri State High School Activities Association Championships. The highest of the highlights were event state titles earned by Tina- Avalon junior Tucker Singer in the shot put, the Braymer Bobcats’ 1,600-meters relay (Griffin Hughson, Kaden Stone, Landon Baker, Aleczander Kelly), and Polo’s Maverick Gentry in the discus throw.
