Gabrielson’s Second ‘Hat Trick’ Puts CHS Booters Above .500

The Chillicothe High School soccer Lady Hornets continued to bob and weave around the .500 mark last week, utilizing veteran forward Juliann Gabrielson’s second 3-goals “hat trick” of the half-finished season in last Wednesday’s home match against Savannah to get a split of their two outings of the week. After being blanked 4-0 on their Bob Fairchild Field home pitch the preceding Monday, the Lady Hornets bested Savannah 5-1 in Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium II a week ago.

CHS Hosts Chillicothe Joe Shy Relays Track, Field Meet Tomorrow

The co-highlight meet – along with the Midland Empire Conference Championships – of the Chillicothe High School track-and-field program’s regular-season schedule every year rolls around tomorrow. Amid what are expected to be sunny, but very brisk, weather conditions (temperatures in the low 50s during the meet hours), the annual Chillicothe Joe Shy Relays will be staged at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium II, beginning with the start of some field events at 2 p.m.

Big Results from Small-School Athletes in Brookfield Meet

Macon, and the host school, four track-andfield athletes from small C-T-area schools stood tall – several times the tallest – in competitions during the March 28 Brookfield Open meet. Defending Class 1 state shot put champion Tucker Singer, a junior at Tina- Avalon High School, handily repeated as the meet’s winner in that event, sending the metal ball sailing 56’10” (17.32 meters), a new personal and school record. His closest competition was senior Glen Holt of Southwest Livingston, who reportedly broke the Wildcats’ school record with his opening toss of 49’3/4” (14.95m). Singer’s brother Tanner was third in the event, as well. Also posting event wins were Southwest Livingston junior Kendall Provolt, when she cleared 4’6” (1.37m) in the girls’ high jump, and, seen during the boys’ high jump, SLHS sophomore Kolt Neptune, who took the top spot not only that event at 5’3-3/4” (1.62m), but also the 300-meters low hurdles in 45.92 seconds. Golf Hornets Burst From Clubhouse Fast

Chillicothe High School’s golf Hornets, already expected to have a strong spring with two junior returning state-tournament qualifiers, might have elevated projections for them already. With nearly-uniform improvement from holdovers and encouraging showings by a newcomer or two, the Hornets charged out of the clubhouse to begin their 2023 season last week with a sweep of all six opponents they met in dual-match competition.

Dominating Home Victories Pushed Soccer Lady Hornets Over .500

Back-to-back decisive, shutout home wins in which seniors Jessica Reeter and Juliann Gabrielson took turns posting goal-scoring “hat trick” and both current No. 1 goalkeeper Hadley Beemer and her potential successor recorded shutouts sent Chillicothe High School’s soccer Lady Hornets into this week’s pair of home matches with a winning record for the season.

CHS’ Reeter Chosen Class 4 Basketball All-State

The capstone of a strong, 4-years career with the Chillicothe High School basketball Lady Hornets’ varsity team was placed on the head of CHS 2022-23 senior Jessica Reeter last week with her selection to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association’s Class 4 All-State team. A dominant figure in CHS annals primarily for her 3-points shooting exploits, but who developed into a highly- effective all-around player and the program’s fifth-leading scorer all-time, the 5’5” Reeter is one of 20 members of the MBCA Class 4 All-State squad, which included two Midland Empire Conference rivals – Kelsey Johnson and Andrea Simmons of state-runnerup St.
