Champ Braymer’s Hawkins CLAA Girls’ Basketball MVP

Rockett tops boys; T-A’s Rounkles, Northwestern boys’ pair on 2022-23 first teams Senior guard/forward Raylee Hawkins of the Carroll-Livingston Activity Association regular-season and tournament champion Braymer High School Lady ’Cats has been voted the CLAA’s girls’ player of the year for the 2022-23 basketball season. Paced by Hawkins, but with a solid supporting cast that includes senior all-league second- team choice Addyson Sweem, Braymer’s third year in the loop saw it sweep both distaff team laurels, including its second-straight regular-season crown.

Meadville Girls Set Defensive, Offensive State Marks in Earning State Crown

En route to their undefeated Class 1 state championship, the 2022-23 Meadville High School basketball Lady Eagles shredded opponents with often-devastating defensive pressure that, over the course of their 31 victories in 31 tries, led to a couple of new state records as a team and nearly an individual state mark. With the MHS girls’ historic season now fully in the books, their start-to-finish perfection is only beginning to grow in stature.

Royal Purple: Meadville Girls State Champs

SPRINGFIELD — Carrying the weight of two months of expectations and the extra pressure of trying to complete a difficult-to-attain perfect season, Meadville High School’s 2022-23 basketball Lady Eagles soared to the task one last time last Friday. Having twice already in their three previous Class 1 state tournament games having out-performed high-caliber opponents in the fourth quarter to prevail and advance to the 2023 MSHSAA Show-Me Showdown championship game, Meadville once again was the best team down the stretch, choking off nearby Chadwick’s Lady Cardinals on only two points in the final frame to complete a 3928 triumph that netted MHS its second-ever girls’ hoops state title.

CHS Spring Sports Seasons Get Going Friday

After a chilly weekend that included some Saturday afternoon snow locally, an up-and-down weather forecast for today through the middle of next week could negatively impact the planned start of some, but not all, Chillicothe High School spring sports for 2023. After temperatures today and tomorrow predicted to be in the 60s, which presumably led to their “jamboree” practice games at Macon being shifted from yesterday to today, Friday’s opening game for the baseball Hornets – they’re due to visit Savannah – faces the prospect of postponement with a predicted high temperature not even reaching 40 degrees in the aftermath of expected rain tomorrow.

Snagging Season Opens Today

Missouri’s snagging season opened today and eager anglers will be on the water for the next six weeks, trying to sink their hooks in one of Missouri’s true “monster” fish, as paddlefish (spoonbills) can grow to over 7 feet long and over 100 pounds.
