Larson’s District Title Paces Five CHS Hornets Wrestlers in State Qualifying

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS — Highlighted by junior Cayden Larson’s unexpected capture of the 157-pounds division championship in last weekend’s Class 2 District 4 wrestling tournament at Excelsior Springs, five Chillicothe High School male wrestlers qualified for today’s and tomorrow’s MSHSAA Championships at Columbia. In addition to firsttime state qualifier Larson, who might have contended for a spot last year, but missed the season with an injury suffered late in the football season, three Chillicothe veterans of state competition – including a 2-times medal-winner – will be among the CHS contingent in the boys’ state tourney.

Meadville Girls Finish Regular Season Perfect

Every regular-season test now passed with another impressive win over a high-caliber opponent, Meadville High School’s basketball Lady Eagles took an unblemished 25-0 record into this week’s Class 1 District 12 tournament they are hosting, standing six wins away from a second state championship. At home last Monday, the MHS girls again pulled away from a state-ranked Class 2 squad to defeat Schuyler County, 68-58.

CHS Basketball Teams Shackle Marshall in Home Finales

What was the last appearance on the home court in 2022-23 for one Chillicothe High School varsity basketball team, but – it turned out – not the other, still provided much the same experience for each last Friday. Hosting the laboring Marshall squads in their final regular-season home games, the Hornets enhanced their chances of, despite a late-season downturn, having another winning season, crushing the visiting Owls 69-47 after the Lady Hornets moved to the brink of another 20wins campaign with a 71-19 smothering of the MHS girls.
