Jam the Gym

Jam the Gym is a boys and girls basketball game hosted by CHS. This year is the 22nd Annual Jam the Gym and was held on Friday, February 3. The basic method of this basketball game is to buy a paper at the entrance, create your paper airplane, and when it is finally time, throw the paper airplane at your desired prize. The money from buying your paper for your airplane goes to a local school in Chillicothe, Verelle Peniston. Verelle Peniston State School is a school for children and young adults.

Hoops Lady Hornets Can’t Recover from Benton First-Half Charge

In a “must-win” situation, if they still wanted to be part of an uphill race for this season’s Midland Empire Conference basketball championship, Chillicothe High School’s Lady Hornets used a 7-0 minirun by three players not usually major offensive factors for them to gain an 11-7 advantage over perennial league power St. Joseph: Benton last Friday night.

Brunswick, Higbee Boys Share CLAA Cage Crown

Via a blowout of northern neighbor Breckenridge a week ago Tuesday and a forfeit from Keytesville last Thursday, Braymer’s girls finished 10-0 in CLAA play to capture the regular-season laurels and top seeding in this week’s conference tournament.

Basketball Lady Hornets Champs of Cameron ‘Shootout’

All the positives the Chillicothe High School basketball Lady Hornets achieved over more than 29 minutes of their Cameron Shootout finale against Smithville last Saturday afternoon nearly were squandered when their ball security unraveled in the final three. Having steadily built the lead established when they bottomed two trifectas in the first 1:10, the Lady Hornets (15-3) moved in front by 15 points with a couple of minutes left in the third stanza and twice matched that in the first 5:01 of the fourth before melting down in the face of Smithville’s desperation full-court press.

Wrestling Hornets Had Tough Go at Trenton

TRENTON — Chillicothe High School’s wrestling Hornets were short on success when they made the short trip to Trenton for boys’ and girls’ matches a week ago last night. Even though the host Bulldogs were empty in five of the 14 weight classes – the vacancies at 106 and 126 pounds shared by CHS, they overcame the 18-point deficit that created by winning all except the last of the nine contested bouts, claiming a 41-21 boys’ victory.

Basketball Hornets Come Away on Short End at Cameron

CAMERON — A tightly- packed set of challenging games for the Chillicothe High School basketball Hornets in the revamped Cameron Shootout on the heels of a tough, faraway road game the preceding Saturday brought many strong stretches of play, but no payoff, in terms of scoreboard victory. A 5-1/2-minutes lapse at the start of the second half in a tie game against a strong, solid Smithville squad doomed the Hornets to a 66-49 first-round defeat on Jan.
