Basketball Lady Hornets Overrun Distant Foe

JOPLIN — Their roster back intact after a 1-game excused absence for one senior starter and two games missed by a top senior reserve, Chillicothe High School’s basketball Lady Hornets figured to be ready to play better Tuesday afternoon at Joplin than they had in last Saturday’s 66-45 loss at Columbia: Hickman. Just how much better they dealt with a second-straight Class 6 opponent was tremendously surprising at first blush, but not so much on closer examination.

Meadville Girls Smartly Pass First Real Test

Through their first eight games of the 2022-23 high school basketball season – rarely against what qualified as even-marginal-quality opponents, Meadville’s Lady Eagles had won each – by an average of 45 points. This past Tuesday, they capitalized on the format of the 18th-annual “High School Holiday Hoops” shootout hosted at Trenton by the North Central Missouri College Foundation to test themselves against a foe of markedly-higher caliber than their prior victims.

Hickman Shreds, Torches Visiting Basketball Lady Hornets

COLUMBIA — A year ago on their home floor, the then-undefeated Chillicothe High School basketball Lady Hornets battled a young, tall, athletic Columbia: Hickman Lady Kewpies squad that 50% from 2-points distance and even better (nine of 17) from 3-points land even for a half and eventually to an 8-points loss. This past Saturday afternoon, on the Columbians’ court, a less-experienced CHS squad minus its mo s t - exper ienced player, point guard, and floor leader surprisingly had its hands full and then some with the same Hickman lineup.
