CHS Winter Sports Set to Take Baton

A broadly-successful fall sports season for Chillicothe High School will commence the transition to winter activities Monday with the first allowable day of preseason practices for Missouri prep basketball and girls’ wrestling programs. Dunn Deal – CHS Softball ‘Boleys Over’ Oak Grove, Returns to ‘Final Four’

With veterans of last year’s state runnerup finish leading the way, but less-experienced teammates continuing to chip in importantly, Chillicothe High School’s softball Lady Hornets are headed back to this weekend’s 2022 Class 3 state tournament semifinals and finals at Springfield. The last hurdle to be cleared on their way was navigated successfully on their home Daryl Danner Memorial Park diamond last Thursday when a 3-runs home run by senior Kirsten Dunn started the scoring for CHS and senior pitcher Kinlei Boley limited it for Oak Grove as CHS posted a clearcut 5-1 triumph in the tourney’s quarterfinals.

Soccer Hornets Bulldogged at Mexico

MEXICO — Coming in on a surge, but still likely needing to win to have a realistic shot at salvaging a winning or break-even record for the 2022 season, Chillicothe High School’s soccer Hornets were shut out 6-0 at Mexico last Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Hornets (7-10-1) have one regular-season match remaining – today at 5 p.m. at Savannah – before facing that very same foe to start the Class 2 District 8 Tournament at Excelsior Springs High’s Tiger Stadium this Saturday at 11 a.m. CHS, which defeated Savannah 3-1 at home recently, is the No. 4 seed and Savannah No. 5. The survivor will take on the top-seeded host Tigers next Monday.

Brookfield-Marceline Rematch Starts Area Football Playoffs Friday

A 2022 area high school regular season which produced only two winning records among non-Chillicothe C- T- coverage- area football squads transitions to postseason play this week and next with poor odds of extending past the first weekend of November for any of the eight teams. The playoffs will get started with a clear “spotlight” game, though, when Linn County rivals Brookfield and Marceline hook up for a second time this fall this Friday night.
