Continuing to reflect the positive value they created with about 10 days of focused practice at midseason, Chillicothe High School’s soccer Hornets made it a 3-0 week for themselves last Thursday when they throttled host St. Joseph: Benton 5-1 in non-Midland Empire Conference competition.

JOSEPH — Their 2-plus-years dream of a state championship entering the “must-win” phase every time they take the field the rest of the 2022 season, Chillicothe High School’s softball Lady Hornets solidly passed their first test – as anticipated – last Thursday, dispatching Richmond 9-3 in the semifinals of the Class 3 District 8 Tournament.
Caldwell County schools Braymer and Polo each claimed Class 1 softball district championships last weekend and will play in the first (sectional) round of the state tournament today, while Meadville saw its bid to do the same fall short. Co-oping with Breckenridge, Braymer (19-7) took the District 12 title with two very easy wins last Wednesday and Thursday.
The 2022 Chillicothe High School tennis Lady Hornets did it with solo grit twice last Monday, setting up an unexpected appearance in the Missouri State High School Activities Association’s Class 1 team state semifinals and finals at Springfield next weekend. A team with relatively- modest expectations and projections at season’s start as it replaced half of its lineup from last year, the Lady Hornets continued to buck not only preseason expectations, but also postseason predictions by coming from behind in singles play in both their state-tournament sectional- and quarterfinal- round matches and elbow their way past Excelsior Springs and Savannah to the state semifinals by identical 5-3 scores.
Corbin Rodenberg, running back and linebacker of our Chillicothe Hornets, has been invited to the All-American Pro Bowl in Dallas, Texas. This past summer athletes all over the country were evaluated to decide whether or not they would be invited to a private event. After the private event, there would be another evaluation and this one would be decided who would play in the All-American Bowl game. The game will be played on Dec. 12 and will be televised on ESPN.
