Senior 2021 state-tourney qualifier had medalist 44 in twin wins Showing more pizazz in familiar surroundings, 2022-23 Chillicothe High School senior Izzy Montgomery earned match medalist honors with a crisp 44 last Thursday as the Lady Hornets defeated both Trenton and Tina-Avalon in prep girls’ golf dual matches at Chillicothe’s municipally- owned Green Hills Golf Course. With Montgomery, who’d carded an 18-holes score of 101 three days earlier in the 2022 season- opening Spoofhounds Best-Ball Invitational tournament at Maryville, out-distancing Putnam County’s Abbie Koenen by three strokes for individual honors (Putnam County only had three players, one less than needed to have a team score), Chillicothe accumulated a low-4 team score of 210 on its home course, 28 shots better than Trenton and 36 in front of the 4-players T-A team.

TRENTON — After a soso start, the 2022 Chillicothe High School volleyball Lady Hornets rolled out the “welcome” mat for new head coach Lanie Beetsma in their season opener last Thursday. Visiting Trenton, the Lady Hornets recovered well from an opening- game loss to best the Lady Bulldogs 19-25, 25-11, 25-14, 25-21 in Beetsma’s inaugural coaching outing.

The shoe went on the other foot for the Chillicothe High School soccer Hornets as they hosted the Marshall Owls last Thursday. On the heels of an 8-0 40-minutes domination of Cameron on the home artificial turf of Bob Fairchild Field at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium two days before, the Hornets (1-1) absorbed a thorough 7-0 thumping from the visiting Marshall Owls.

MARYVILLE — Second- year Chillicothe High School cross country running head coach Jennifer Dickson thought she had a rush from the summertime effort she knew many of the prospective members of the 2022 Hornets and Lady Hornets put in and again from the turnouts for the two squads once preseason practices began on Aug. 8.

The Southeastern Conference has a national championship quarterback, a Heisman Trophy winner and a collection of promising passers both new and old. The group is headlined by Alabama’s Heisman winner, Bryce Young, and Stetson Bennett, who led Georgia to the national title over Young & Co.
