Montgomery Sharp in Golf Lady Hornets’ Home Debut

Senior 2021 state-tourney qualifier had medalist 44 in twin wins Showing more pizazz in familiar surroundings, 2022-23 Chillicothe High School senior Izzy Montgomery earned match medalist honors with a crisp 44 last Thursday as the Lady Hornets defeated both Trenton and Tina-Avalon in prep girls’ golf dual matches at Chillicothe’s municipally- owned Green Hills Golf Course. With Montgomery, who’d carded an 18-holes score of 101 three days earlier in the 2022 season- opening Spoofhounds Best-Ball Invitational tournament at Maryville, out-distancing Putnam County’s Abbie Koenen by three strokes for individual honors (Putnam County only had three players, one less than needed to have a team score), Chillicothe accumulated a low-4 team score of 210 on its home course, 28 shots better than Trenton and 36 in front of the 4-players T-A team.

Owls Put the ‘Ow’ on Soccer Hornets in 7-0 Shutout Thursday

The shoe went on the other foot for the Chillicothe High School soccer Hornets as they hosted the Marshall Owls last Thursday. On the heels of an 8-0 40-minutes domination of Cameron on the home artificial turf of Bob Fairchild Field at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium two days before, the Hornets (1-1) absorbed a thorough 7-0 thumping from the visiting Marshall Owls.

Currently mostly confined to a wheelchair while battling what he says doctors are treating as an infection in his right knee which has caused notable swelling, Chillicothe High School softball Lady Hornets head coach Lee Rucker – seen chatting with and critiquing his 2022 squad after last Tuesday’s 9-6 home win over East Buchanan – probably was in more psychological pain after the Lady Hornets slipped to 4-3 on the season last Thursday with a loss to another KCI Conference club, Lawson, on the road. CHS Grad Graves, D-II Power NWMSU Win Grid Opener Thursday

MARYVILLE With former Chillicothe High School All-State lineman Walker Graves contributing a couple of unassisted tackles, the NCAA Division II No. 2-ranked Northwest Missouri State University football Bearcats won their 11th-straight home opener and extended the nation’s longest D-II home winning streak to 13 with a 33-19 victory over the Fort Hays State Tigers in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action at Bearcat Stadium Thursday night.
