Stunner Caps Tennis Lady Hornets’ Busy Opening Week

After getting an unplanned, immediate preview to start the 2022 season of what they could face come district-tournament time at the end of their year, Chillicothe High School’s tennis Lady Hornets completed their opening week’s slate Wednesday with a major Midland Empire Conference surprise. After taking a close loss at home to Kirksville Monday in their inaugural outing and then routing Cameron on the road the next day, first-year head coach Sophie Chambers’ crew shocked host Savannah 5-4 by winning four of the six singles sets.

Chiefs Beat Packers in Preseason Finale After Nod to Late Dawson

(AP) — Patrick Mahomes gazed over the first-team Kansas City offense Thursday night, lined up before him as if members of a choir, and together the Chiefs took a poignant penalty to honor Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson. Then they beat the Green Bay Packers, the foe the Dawson-led Chiefs battled in the first-ever Super Bowl in January 1967, 17-10 in an otherwise-forgettable preseason finale.

CHS Softball Starts Season Strong Again in City

INDEPENDENCE — The opening weekend of the 2021 Class 3 state runnerup Chillicothe High School softball Lady Hornets’ 2022 season could have gone better, but not a whole lot. Playing in the 24-teams Greater Kansas City Suburban Invitational tournament to begin their campaign for a second year in a row, the salty Lady Hornets bolted out of the gate with two solid “pool-play” wins last Friday and then opened competition in the tourney’s “gold division” bracket play with another triumph before dropping backto- back 1-run games to Class 5 schools to wrap up the tourney.
