After their Chillicothe High School outdoors fall sports compatriots initiated their 2022 season practices early in the day Monday – the cross country running and girls’ golf squads in mid-80s temperatures and high humidity, albeit a bit of a breeze, at midnight and the football and girls’ golf teams under occasionally- sprinkling, hot and humid conditions during the early daylight hours, the soccer Hornets and softball Lady Hornets gathered early that evening under bright, sunny skies with markedly-lower temperatures and humidity. Softball head coach Lee Rucker welcomed about 25 players to the opening practice, while soccer chief Tim Cunningham had about 20 on hand. Both of those CHS programs are coming off district- championship seasons and historic state-tournament participation – the Lady Hornets matching the highest-ever state finish in program history, placing second in Class 3, and the Hornets reaching the Class 2 state quarterfinals for the first time in CHS soccer (girls’ or boys’) history.
