Mudcats Go Out Winners at Home in Low-Key Finale

For all of the statistical negatives the 2022 Chillicothe Mudcats generated, they played winning ball in front of their home faithful, a first for the organization in five years. By besting the visiting Jefferson City Renegades 10-7 in essentially an exhibition game last Saturday on what became a beautiful – arguably the nicest – evening, weather-wise, of the season at “June” Shaffer Memorial Park stadium, the ’22 Fish finished with an 11-10 home mark, the club’s first time on the high side of .500 in Chillicothe since the 2017 team went 16-10.

Mudcats’ Improbable Win Makes Them Neutral in Division Title Race

CLARINDA, Iowa — Although the timing ultimately made it look that way, the Chillicothe Mudcats – the last-place finisher in the MINK League’s North Division this summer – did not hand the division’s regular-season title and companion top seeding in this week’s divisional playoffs to the rival St. Joseph Mustangs nor deny it to the Clarinda (Iowa) A’s.

St. Joseph Pulls Plug on Depleted Mudcats Last Thursday

ST. JOSEPH — Having learned, unexpectedly, earlier in the day that MINK League officials had declared that – apparently for a variety of issues – no previously-postponed games would be made up on Sunday’s pre-planned, league-wide “rain date nor beyond that, even though they and other teams involved in pursuing league playoffs berths still would have multiple unplayed games by then, the Chillicothe Mudcats somewhat predictably proved easy fodder for the host St. Joseph Mustangs at the Ponies’ Phil Welch Stadium home last Thursday.

Cardinals’ Arenado, Goldschmidt Unvaccinated, Couldn’t Make Toronto Trip

CINCINNATI (AP) — Two of the St. Louis Cardinals’ best players, third baseman Nolan Arenado and first baseman and current National League Most Valuable Player front-runner Paul Goldschmidt, couldn’t make the team’s trip to Toronto for Tuesday’s and today’s 2-games series with the Blue Jays because they hadn’t received the COVID-19 vaccination.
