Chillicothe Mudcats Nudged Toward Brink in Iowa Tuesday

BOONE, Iowa — The Chillicothe Mudcats’ long-ailing 2022 season – after drifting from being the hospital equivalent of serious condition by the start of July to critical July 16 when a potentially-lifesaving victory over Carroll, Iowa, eluded them when it was one strike away – likely moved to death’s doorstep this past Tuesday when they dropped an 8-4 decision to the Des Moines (Iowa) Peak Prospects at Boone’s Memorial Park stadium.

Summertime Shooting

If you’re a hunter, target shooter, or just enjoy being outdoors shooting your gun for practice, there’s no better way to sharpen your shotgun shooting eye than shooting clay targets. Mudcats Can’t Close Deal to Close MINK Gap

Just as the Chillicothe Mudcats’ narrow path to the 2022 MINK League playoffs was on the verge of becoming significantly less implausible early Monday morning, it encountered a hairpin turn the club couldn’t quite negotiate. Whether the result was plunging off the road and down the mountainside or just slamming hard on the brakes remained to be determined over the next seven days.

Dorsal Fin to Wall, Mudcats Stare Down League Leaders Friday

When the MINK League-leading Clarinda (Iowa) A’s, with typical efficiency, used a misplayed double, a right-side groundout, and a simple single through the left side of the “Chuck” Haney Field infield to seize a 1-0 lead over the Chillicothe Mudcats three batters into last Friday night’s contest, it seemed to be a precursor of a 13th-consecutive A’s victory over the Mudcats over the past two seasons.

Sinking Fish Jabbed by Joplin Again Wednesday

JOPLIN — A visit to the MINK League’s southern-most outpost at mid-week likely made the 2022 Chillicothe Mudcats’ last “hole card” in the chase for a league-playoffs berth irrelevant. With still two games head to head with current third-place team Carroll, Iowa, and three with Des Moines, Iowa, the club directly ahead of them in the league’s North Division standings, the Mudcats could console themselves with the assertion that, if they could manage to stay relatively close to both while facing other foes, they’d have a chance to overtake the Hawkeye State squads in direct showdowns.
