The annual Chillicothe R-II Teacher of the Year and Beacon Awards ceremony, originally scheduled for Jan. 6, was canceled due to inclement weather. As a result, the announcement of this year’s winners will take place during the Chillicothe Education Foundation fundraising dinner on Feb. 5.

The nominees for Teacher of the Year include:

• Katie Maples (CES/CELC)

• Natalie Holcer (CES/CELC)

• Brook Kreatz (CMS)

• Canaan Fairley (CHS)

• Denise Toole (GRTS)

Nominees for the Beacon Awards are:

• Kelly Potts (CES/CELC)

• Marty Sharp (CES/CELC)

• Manny Morales (CMS)

• Michele Murrell (CHS)

• Tonia Akerson (GRTS)

• Laura Schuler (District)

In addition to the awards, the Chillicothe School District recently recognized long-serving staff with years of service pins. Mandy James and Kim Bloss were honored for 25 years of service, while Julia Reeter and Debra Shafer were recognized for 30 years of dedication to the district.

The community is invited to attend the Feb. 5 event to celebrate these outstanding educators and staff members.
