Chillicothe Residents Share Their Crafts

By Ray Ecklund

Chillicothe was well represented by Jan and Amy Jackson of Salty Hippo Studio at the Kansas City Regional Quilt Festival (KCRQF) last week. Greeting the 10,000 plus festival visitors with broad smiles and an upbeat attitude these two Chillicothe residents showed boundless energy and a customer oriented mindset throughout the three day event.

The KCRQF was held this year at the Overland Park Convention Center. This bi-annual event featured 160 vendors from around the country and over 700 quilts. Vendors offering every type of quilting related product from custom thimbles to eight foot long computer operated sewing machines, there was something for everyone.

Amy offered custom designed and hand printed fabrics as well as unique “Quilt Tattoos” to the attendees. The Quilt Tattoo is a registered Trademark of the Salty Hippo which allows a quilter or crafter to leave a written inscription with their work for future generations. In addition, the attendees enjoyed Salty Sayings on Salty Squares, a further example of their creativity and sense of humor.

This intrepid duo enjoyed the QuiltCon Convention in Phoenix last February. Soon they will be at the Great Wisconsin Quilt show sharing the Chillicothe spirit with a little help from a Salty Hippo.
