Sophomore Cain Evans ran a personal-best 17:02, 21 seconds faster than he’d ever run a 5-kilometers cross-country running race, in placing 22nd in last Saturday’s Class 3 state meet at Columbia’s Gans Creek Cross-Country Running Course. He joined teammate Luke Thompson in earning a state medal (top-25 finish), the first time CHS has had two state medalists in the same year, and they and their Hornets teammates placed ninth in the team standings, highest-ever finish by a Hornets squad and matching the 1987 Lady Hornets for the top CHS team placement at state ever.
