Three Chillicothe High School wrestling Lady Hornets – including the young program’s first 4-years participants – captured Midland Empire Conference championships in the 2021-22 season which was celebrated at Wednesday evening’s postseason awards event. From left, seniors Karyna Ireland and Abigail Montes took the MEC titles at 141 and 115 pounds, respectively. For Montes, it was a repeat performance after being champion at 112 pounds as a junior. Joining them as conference title-winners was freshman Yoo Jung Lee in the 120-pounds division. Montes departs the program with the highest winning rate of any multi-seasons participant at 55%, as well as most career takedowns (21) and tournament championships (four). Ireland does so tops in career wins (40) and wins by fall (16). Lee was the team leader in multiple categories and set new records for bout wins in a season (22), wins by fall (13), match points in a season (57, shared with classmate Rebecca Slattery), and team points in a season. Each of the latter two also now are Lady Hornets career records. (PAUL STURM/C-T PHOTO)
