Chillicothe Municipal Utilities (CMU) is reaching out to water customers as part of an effort to comply with the Lead and Copper Service Line Identification Rule issued by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. CMU is specifically contacting customers with water lines that are still classified as “unknown” to determine if they contain lead.
Customers will soon receive a letter in the mail requesting their assistance in identifying lead water lines. The letter provides guidance on how to identify lead lines, along with additional information for those who may have lead pipes. Included with the letter is a survey form that customers are asked to complete and return to the CMU office.
For those who have questions or need help identifying their water line type, the CMU Water Service Superintendent, Chris Bonderer, is available for assistance at 660-646-0562.
