Chula Fire Department’s Whole Hog Supper to be Held Tomorrow

The Chula Fire Department is inviting the community to its annual Whole Hog Supper, set to take place on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. The event will be held at the Chula Community Center from 5:30-7 p.m.

The supper operates on a free-will donation basis, with all proceeds directly benefiting the Chula Fire Department. Funds raised help the department continue its essential work of protecting the community and maintaining their operations.

In addition to the meal, raffle tickets will be available for purchase during the event, with winners drawn that same evening.

Cultural Corner Hosts Family Fun Day Feb. 1

The Cultural Corner Art Guild and Gallery is hosting a Family Fun Day on Feb. 1, offering an engaging and creative experience for families in the form of an adult and child painting class. The event is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. making it a fun afternoon activity to bring loved ones together.

Participants will create a charming winter-themed painting featuring a penguin, providing a memorable keepsake for families. The cost is $40 for one adult and one child, with an additional fee of $15 for each extra child. Payment is required to secure a spot, ensuring space for all who wish to join in the fun.

Camp Rainbow Fundraiser to be Held Feb. 2

Camp Rainbow will hold it’s 8th annual Chili/Soup lunch fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 2 at the LICOVA building in Chillicothe, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the menu including chili, various soup choices, and cinnamon rolls all for a free-will donation. They will also offer meals for dine-in, carry-out or can make deliveries. 100% of proceeds go directly to the operating funds of Camp Rainbow, a 10 day summer camp for special needs individuals held at Crowder State Park each summer.

Friends of the Livingston County Library Kick Off 2025 Annual Meeting

The Friends of the Livingston County Library are set to commence the new year with their first meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at 6 p.m. The gathering will take place at the Livingston County Library, located at 450 Locust Street in Chillicothe. This is a rescheduled event due to inclement weather.

This initial meeting will feature the unveiling of new member perks, the election of board members, and discussions to plan activities for the year ahead. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect over snacks and receive swag bags as tokens of appreciation.

The Wheeling Happy Harvesters 4-H Club is hosting a free will donation soup dinner from 5:30 – 7 p.m., on Feb. 7 at the Wheeling Community Center.

Laclede Sportsman’s Club Hosts Monthly Steak Feeds

The Laclede Sportsman’s Club invites the community to enjoy a Steak Feed, with upcoming dates scheduled for Feb. 8 and March 8, 2025. From 5-8 p.m., at the Lambert Building in Laclede.

For $25, attendees will be treated to a T-bone steak, baked potato, salad, Texas toast, and a choice of coffee or tea. A kids hamburger plate is also available for $6.

Calling Breadmakers: Beginners Sourdough Workshop Announced for Feb. 8 in Linneus

Homemade Blessings Bread & Bakes has announced it will host a much-anticipated Beginners Sourdough Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 8. This immersive, hands-on class promises to help aspiring bakers master the art of sourdough breadmaking with confidence and creativity.

The workshop will take place at the Linneus Community Building, located at 103 W. Park Street in Linneus from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. For an entry fee of $100 per person, participants will receive all the essentials needed to kickstart their sourdough journey. This includes a sourdough starter, basic tools, an instruction booklet, and the first loaf of dough. Attendees will also gain access to a private Facebook community for ongoing help and encouragement.

The class will cover key topics such as caring for a sourdough starter, crafting artisan sourdough bread, understanding basic rules of fermentation, and learning how the dough should feel during preparation.

Chillicothe High School Announces 58th Annual Celebrity Alumni Band Concert

The Chillicothe High School Performing Arts Center will host the highly anticipated 58th Annual Celebrity Alumni Band Concert on Thursday, Feb.13, 2025, at 7 p.m. This cherished tradition invites CHS band alumni to join current students in a night of powerful and vibrant musical performances.

This year’s concert will feature the Symphonic Band performing works by renowned composers Claude T. Smith and Andrew Glover. The CHS Jazz Ensemble will also take the stage, adding its signature flair to the evening. As a highlight, alumni will join the band on stage for a grand performance of “God of Our Fathers” by Claude T. Smith.

Sarah Cavanah, one of the event’s coordinators, shared the excitement for this year’s concert, noting that 25 alumni have already signed up to perform.

“We want to ensure all of our alumni, including those without internet access, know they’re welcome to participate,” Cavanah said. It’s imperative that all former band members note that they are all welcome. The organizers are reaching out to the community to spread the word so no alum misses this special opportunity.

41st Tina-Avalon Country Music Show to be Held March 7-8

The 41st Tina-Avalon Country Music Show is set to entertain audiences with two performances on March 7 – 8. The event will take place at the Tina-Avalon School on Highway 65, with the first show scheduled for Friday evening at 7 p.m. and the second on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.

This annual music show features performances by local vocalists and musicians, showcasing the talent within the community. Both shows will offer the same lineup, giving attendees the flexibility to enjoy the event on their preferred days or both.

Chamber & GRTS Team Up for Career Fair Set for April

The Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce and Grand River Technical School are teaming up to host the 2025 Career Connections: Job & Resource Fair. Scheduled for April 24, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., at the Jenkins Expo Center in Chillicothe.

The fair is open to all job seekers and students interested in connecting with local and regional employers. Designed to link talent with opportunity, the event offers attendees immediate access to hiring prospects, career exploration, and the chance to build long-term professional connections.
