Laypersons Pre-Easter Services Schedule for April 14-18

The schedule for annual non-denominational pre-Easter services has been announced.

Services will start at 7 a.m., each day and end by 7:30 a.m.  There will be coffee and donuts from 6:45 to 7 a.m., and 7:30 to 7:45 a.m.  The service each morning will be lead by laymen and women from various churches.  Monday, April 14 – Free Methodist Church; Tuesday, April 15 – Mt. Zion Baptist Church;  Wednesday, April 16 – Grace Family Fellowship;  Thursday, April 17 – Church of Christ;  Friday, April 18 – First Baptist Church.  These services are open to all men, women and children in the area.

This year the host church is Turning Point.

These services have been an annual tradition in Chillicothe since the mid-1950s.

Chillicothe Elementary to Host Kindergarten Parent Orientation

Chillicothe Elementary School is inviting parents of incoming kindergarten students to a Kindergarten Parent Orientation for the 2025-26 school year. The event will take place on Monday, April 14, in the CES Cafeteria, with two available sessions either at 4-5 p.m. or 6-7 p.m.

The orientation is designed to help parents prepare for their child’s transition into kindergarten. Topics will include classroom expectations, transportation, and general school procedures. Parents are encouraged to bring their incoming kindergartener, but they should make arrangements for siblings, as supervision will not be provided for additional children.

Olive Prindle DAR to Meet April 14

Olive Prindle DAR will meet at 1 p.m., April 14 at the Chillicothe Methodist Church. The program will be “History of Aprons,” by Mary Underwood. Members and guests are welcome.

Livingston County Democrat Club to Meet

The Livingston County Democrats Club will meet on April 15 at the Livingston County Library from 5 to 6:45 p.m.

Breckenridge Egg Hunt set for April 19

It’s that time of year again in Breckenridge — and it’s all for the kids! The community is invited to the Easter Egg Hunt and Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Breckenridge City Park.

The event will feature age-specific egg hunts for children aged 4 and under, as well as for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade, divided into K–2nd and 3rd–6th groups.

Organizers are asking for donations of candy and prizes to help make the event a memorable one. This fun-filled celebration is a great opportunity to support the kids and enjoy a spring morning in the park.

LDS to Host Community Easter Service

The community is invited to gather in worship and celebration this Easter Sunday for a religious service hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Chillicothe. The special Easter program, themed “Feel Jesus Christ’s Greater Love,” will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 20, at Dewey Elementary School, located at 905 Dickinson Street.

This uplifting service will feature music, short inspirational messages, and a focus on the love and hope that Easter represents. The morning will begin with a special presentation from the church’s youngest members, offering a meaningful and joyful start to the worship experience.

All are welcome to attend, and guests are encouraged to park around the back of the school. The event is designed to be a spiritual boost for individuals and families alike, whether longtime members or newcomers to the faith community.

Chamber & GRTS Team Up for Career Fair Set for April 24

The Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce and Grand River Technical School are teaming up to host the 2025 Career Connections: Job & Resource Fair. Scheduled for April 24, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., at the Jenkins Expo Center in Chillicothe.

The fair is open to all job seekers and students interested in connecting with local and regional employers. Designed to link talent with opportunity, the event offers attendees immediate access to hiring prospects, career exploration, and the chance to build long-term professional connections. Employers from various industries will be on-site to network, recruit talent, and share insights about workforce opportunities.

Mt Olive Cemetery Assoc. to Meet

The Mt Olive Cemetery Association of Livingston County will meet at 2 p.m., May 4 at Goodtime Charlie’s, 8554 LIV 511. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Bishop Hogan Dinner Auction to be Held April 26

Bishop Hogan Memorial School is set to host its highly anticipated 2025 Dinner Auction on Saturday, April 26. This year’s event, themed “The Grand Masquerade,” promises an enchanting evening full of food, fellowship, and fundraising — all to support the students and programs of Bishop Hogan. The event runs from 4:30-9 p.m.

Doors open with the start of the silent auction at 4:30 p.m. The dining area will open at 6 p.m. with dinner service beginning at 7 p.m. the live auction kicks off at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $20 and available for purchase in the school office. Guests will enjoy a Hy-Vee catered dinner featuring Monterey pork chops, seasoned potatoes, broccoli, Caesar salad, and dessert provided by The Mad Batter. A full bar and bubbly bar will also be available to add some sparkle to the evening.

FosterAdopt Connect to Host Softball Tourney

The Sliding Home Softball Tournament is set to bring excitement and camaraderie to Chillicothe this spring. Organized by FosterAdopt Connect Chillicothe, the co-ed softball event will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, starting at 9 a.m. at Danner Park, located at 1798 Litton Road in Chillicothe.

This annual tournament invites teams from Chillicothe and surrounding areas to step up to the plate for a day of friendly competition, community spirit, and support for a meaningful cause. Teams are encouraged to register early to secure their spots and review the tournament rules through the provided online forms.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available for local businesses and individuals looking to contribute to this exciting event. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit FosterAdopt Connect, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in the foster care system.
