The community is invited to join a festive crafting session at the Livingston County Library Oct. 15 where participants will be making TerraCotta scarecrow crafts. Whether a seasoned crafter or a beginner, no experience is needed—just bring the enthusiasm for fall, and all materials will be provided.

Southwest Wildcats to Host Annual Varsity Football Homecoming Game
The Southwest Wildcats, representing Tina-Avalon, Hale, and Southwest students, are set to host their annual varsity football homecoming game against Knox County on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m.
This year, Tina-Avalon is thrilled to announce the candidates for the senior court: Zoey Mathews, Tanner Singer, Jadah Brown, Tyler Singer, Lydia Haynes and Jasper Bowes.

Peppy Promenaders Square Dance Club Hosts Dance Lessons
Peppy Promenaders are offering square dance lessons every Thursday from 7-9 p.m., at the Grand River Multi-Purpose Senior Center. The first class is free, then classes cost $3 for adults and $1.50 for youth.

MDC Hosts Annual Poosey Fall Driving Tour on Oct. 20
Nature enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) prepares to host its annual Poosey Fall Driving Tour on Sunday, Oct. 20. This self-guided driving tour offers participants the opportunity to take in the breathtaking fall foliage and scenic landscapes of the Poosey Conservation Area.
Gates will open at noon, and vehicles will be permitted to start the tour until 4 p.m. The journey begins at the Pike’s Lake entrance, located just south of Trenton. Visitors are encouraged to take Highway W to LIV 502 and follow posted signs to the driving tour’s starting point.
The tour, which typically lasts between two and four hours, will take visitors through gravel roads, steep climbs, and low water crossings, offering a close-up view of the area’s natural beauty. Due to the terrain, the MDC recommends higher-clearance vehicles for a smooth experience.

Health Dept. to Offer Safe Sitter Training
The Livingston County Health Center will host a “Safe Sitter” training session on Oct. 25 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Health Center, located at 800 Adam Drive. This training coincides with a scheduled day off for Chillicothe R-II students, providing a convenient opportunity for young teens to attend.
“Safe Sitter” is a national program designed to reduce the number of preventable injuries and deaths among young children by equipping middle school-aged caretakers with essential skills. Aimed at students in grades 6-8, the course teaches lifesaving techniques, including rescue skills and first aid, following American Heart Association standards and guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Participants will learn how to handle emergencies, prevent problem behavior, and care for younger children based on their developmental stages. The course also covers valuable lessons on managing a babysitting business, helping teens take on the responsibility of caregiving with confidence.
Graduates of the program will receive a completion card, certifying their ability to use the skills they’ve learned. A graduation ceremony will be held at the end of the class. This course is an excellent opportunity for young teens to gain the skills needed to safely care for others and respond to emergencies with confidence

Downtown to Celebrate Halloween with Bootastic Boofest!
Get ready for a spooky and fun-filled evening in downtown Chillicothe on Halloween. Main Street Chillicothe is hosting BOOFEST, a Halloween celebration for all ages, on Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. Goblins can trick or treat around the Livingston County Courthouse square in the heart of downtown at Silver Moon Plaza. This brings the community together for an afternoon of fun Halloween-themed activities.
Families and children are invited to dress up in their favorite costumes and enjoy the festivities. BOOFEST promises a safe and festive environment to celebrate Halloween while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Chillicothe.

Highview Baptist Church Hosts Operation Christmas Child Event on Nov. 13
Highview Baptist Church is gearing up for its annual participation in Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, and the community is invited to take part. The shoebox packing event will be held Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. where volunteers will gather to fill boxes with gifts and essential items for children in need around the world.
The church is also accepting item donations and financial contributions to support the effort. Shoeboxes will be filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and more, providing joy and hope to children in countries affected by poverty and crisis.

CHS to Perform ‘Shrek’ Musical; Set for Nov. 15
Get ready for the curtain call of ‘Shrek: The Musical’ as performed by Chillicothe High School students. Under the direction of Lisa Rule, there will be a live pit band with Sarah Cavanah, Chillicothe Director of Bands, leading the pit. Michelle Phillps will be the musical director.
Opening night for the production is set for Nov. 15.

Turkey Trot 5K to Raise Funds for Scholarships in Chillicothe
Runners and walkers alike are invited to join the Sol Oasis Turkey Trot 5K on Nov. 16, at Simpson Park. The event, put on by the Sol Oasis Scholarship Inc., which begins at 8 a.m. will raise scholarship funds for Chillicothe High School seniors, making it a fun and impactful way for participants to support the local community.
Participants can register early to take advantage of the $30 fee, which includes a race T-shirt for those who sign up before Oct. 25. After that date, registration will cost $35, though shirts are not guaranteed. Kids under 14 can participate for $20, with a guaranteed T-shirt for early registrants.
In addition to the 5K run, the event will feature a Best Costume contest, with the winner taking home a turkey. Costumes are optional, but will add a festive flair to the morning’s activities. Whether you’re an avid runner or simply want to show support, the Turkey Trot promises to be a great day of community involvement and giving back.

Meadville Lions Turkey Trot to Benefit Linn Co. Food Pantry
Kick off your Thanksgiving Day with a morning run or walk at the annual 5K event, benefiting the Linn County Food Pantry with a Turkey Trot in Meadville put on by the Meadville Lions Club organization. Participants are invited to gather at the intersection of West Crandall and Linn Street for registration starting at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 28 starting at 106 West Crandall in Meadville city limits.
The registration fee is $25 per person, a flat rate regardless of age. Funds raised from the event will go directly to support the Linn County Food Pantry, making a meaningful impact in the community.

Kids Christmas Event to be Held at LivCo Courthouse
Main Street Chillicothe is excited to announce the upcoming Kids Christmas event at the Livingston County Courthouse in Chillicothe, where children are invited to participate in a festive shopping experience.
On Dec. 6 from 4-6 p.m. kids ages 4 to 14 will have the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts for their loved ones. Helper elves will be on-site to assist young shoppers, while local downtown merchants will offer specially-priced gifts for under $15.
In addition to shopping, children can create Christmas cards while their purchases are wrapped free of charge, making for a memorable experience.
