Cultural Corner Offers November Classes

The Cultural Corner Art Guild & Gallery in Chillicothe is hosting several creative events throughout November designed for both children and adults to unleash some creativity alongside others.

The Barn Quilt Wood Block Paint Class with Patti Taylor will take place on Nov. 14, from 1-3 p.m. This class is limited to 12 participants and costs $50 for members and $55 for non-members. Participants will design and paint their own barn quilt-inspired wood block.

Seniors aged 60 and older from Livingston County may inquire about free class opportunities.

Highview Baptist Church Hosts Operation Christmas Child Event on Nov. 13

Highview Baptist Church is gearing up for its annual participation in Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, and the community is invited to take part. The shoebox packing event will be held Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. where volunteers will gather to fill boxes with gifts and essential items for children in need around the world.

The church is also accepting item donations and financial contributions to support the effort. Shoeboxes will be filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and more, providing joy and hope to children in countries affected by poverty and crisis.

Cultural Corner Hosts Ceramic Christmas Ornament Workshop for Holiday Crafting Fun

Get into the holiday spirit and create personalized Christmas decorations at Cultural Corner’s Ceramic Christmas Ornament Workshop. This two-session workshop, scheduled for Nov. 14 and Nov. 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., offers participants the chance to craft six unique ceramic ornaments, with the opportunity to make more if desired.

Led by local artisans, this workshop is designed for all skill levels, making it a perfect way to enjoy festive creativity with friends or family. The registration fee is $35 for members and $40 for non-members, covering all materials needed for the ornament creations.

Chillicothe Chamber Hosts “Brewin’ Business” Networking Event at YMCA

The Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting local business owners, professionals, and community members to its Brewin’ Business networking event Nov.14. Held at the Grand River Area Family YMCA, located at 1725 Locust Street in Chillicothe, the event runs from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and offers a relaxed atmosphere for attendees to network and connect.

Participants are welcome to drop in anytime during the hour to enjoy light breakfast refreshments and the opportunity to meet the friendly YMCA staff. In addition, attendees can take a guided tour of the YMCA’s newly renovated facilities, getting a firsthand look at the updates and improvements made to serve the community better.

Chillicothe to Host Free Autism Resource Fair Nov. 14

Chillicothe families are invited to attend the Autism Resource Fair, a free event designed to support families and individuals affected by autism. Scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14, from 4-6 p.m., the fair will be held at the United Methodist Church, located at 1414 Walnut in Chillicothe.

The event, co-hosted by the Livingston County Health Center and Chillicothe R-II School District, offers a valuable opportunity for families to access resources, including sensory giveaways, resource booths, and prize drawings. Local organizations will be on hand to provide information and support, making it a resourceful event for those seeking help and guidance related to autism.

Chula Community Center to Host a Hog Supper on Nov. 16

The Chula Community Center will host a Hog Supper on Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. at 625 Mansur Street, Chula. The center will provide the hog and potatoes, while community members will contribute sides, salads, and desserts. Admission is $12 per plate for those aged 10 and older, and $6 for children under 10. The hog, donated by an anonymous contributor, was secured by Lisa Kellison, who is also leading the event. Proceeds will go toward replacing the center’s outside doors and refreshing the bathrooms.

Turkey Trot 5K to Raise Funds for Scholarships in Chillicothe

Runners and walkers alike are invited to join the Sol Oasis Turkey Trot 5K on Nov. 16, at Simpson Park. The event, put on by the Sol Oasis Scholarship Inc., which begins at 8 a.m. will raise scholarship funds for Chillicothe High School seniors, making it a fun and impactful way for participants to support the local community.

Registration costs $35, shirts are no longer guaranteed. Kids under 14 can participate for $20, with a guaranteed T-shirt for early registrants.

In addition to the 5K run, the event will feature a Best Costume contest, with the winner taking home a turkey. Costumes are optional, but will add a festive flair to the morning’s activities. Whether you’re an avid runner or simply want to show support, the Turkey Trot promises to be a great day of community involvement and giving back.

CPKC Holiday Train Returns to Chillicothe on Thanksgiving Day

The beloved Canadian Pacific (CPKC) Holiday Train is back for its 26th annual journey, spreading holiday cheer across North America from Nov. 21 to Dec. 20, 2024. This year, the train will make a special stop in Chillicothe on Thanksgiving Day, arriving at approximately 2:45 p.m. on the CPKC tracks next to the Lowe’s parking lot.

This year’s event invites Chillicothe residents to join the festivities, bringing heart-healthy food donations or monetary contributions. All donations collected in Chillicothe will benefit the House of Prayer.

Adding to the holiday spirit, live performances by American Authors and KT Tunstall will take place from 3-3:30 p.m., providing entertainment for attendees of all ages.

Cultural Corner Invites Kids to Create Christmas Crafts Following Holiday Parade

The Cultural Corner Art Guild & Gallery will host a fun-filled Kid’s Christmas Projects event on Nov. 23, immediately following the holiday parade, starting at 1 p.m. This creative opportunity invites children of all ages to get into the holiday spirit by making festive crafts.

For just $5 per project, kids can create as many crafts as they like, bringing their unique touches to holiday decorations. The event is designed as a come-and-go format, meaning families can drop in at any time after the parade, and no RSVP is required.

Support Local Causes at Open House

Chillicothe residents are invited to attend an Open House Fundraiser on Nov. 23 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at 1905 Hoyt Drive. This event provides an afternoon of shopping for unique home decor, wholesale furniture, rugs, and festive Christmas crafts, all available for purchase.

The fundraiser requires a $20 entry donation, with tickets available in advance from District Home Decor. Light refreshments will be served, allowing attendees to browse comfortably while supporting a good cause.

Participants have the option to choose where their entry donation will go, with three local charities to support: Bishop Hogan Memorial School, Chillicothe High School’s Marching Hornets to raise funds for their Disney World Parade of Bands 2025 trip, and Chillicothe Animal Shelter, which has been helping find new homes for pets since 1998.

Sponsored by District Home Decor and Lee H Consulting, this event provides an opportunity to discover one-of-a-kind finds for the home while contributing to local organizations that make a difference in the community.

Nov. 23 Set for 77th Annual Holiday Parade: Participants Encouraged to Sign Up

The Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 77th Annual Holiday Parade, themed “Peace on Earth,” on Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. in downtown Chillicothe. All businesses, organizations, clubs, and families to participate get signed up to participate in the big holiday celebration. Additional information for parade entries will be available after registration.

The parade will start at the intersection of Washington and Polk, proceed south to Third Street, turn east, head north on Locust, and end at Locust and Polk.

Christmas Craft Extravaganza Brings Local Artisans to Linneus

Get ready to shop local this holiday season at the Christmas Craft Extravaganza, a festive gathering of talented crafters from across the area. Elks to Host Holiday Bazaar

The Chillicothe Elks Auxiliary is hosting a Holiday Bazaar. This is being held at Chillicothe Elks Lodge #656 at 413 Harvester Road on Nov. 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be numerous local vendors on site with all sorts of unique holiday gift ideas and items for all. There will be a concession stand available as well as the chance to catch Santa off break from the North Pole for a photo session. Santa will be available at the Lodge until 2 p.m.

Bishop Hogan to Host Holiday Bazaar

Be sure to get prepared for the upcoming Holiday Bazaar hosted by Bishop Hogan Memorial School Nov. 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be loads of vendors with numerous products, holiday décor, and unique homemade goods.

There will also be soup and cinnamon rolls for lunch for $8 sponsored by the Bishop Hogan PTO. While there, be sure to purchase a raffle ticket to win a Christmas tree that is already decorated and ready to go. On hand will also be a photographer taking Christmas photos.

Linneus Business Hosts Reopening Event

The Blue Frog Bar in Linneus is celebrating a reopening event Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. Brand X Band KC will be headlining the event with live music. It will be located at 105 East Elm in Linneus.

Meadville Lions Turkey Trot to Benefit Linn Co. Food Pantry

Kick off your Thanksgiving Day with a morning run or walk at the annual 5K event, benefiting the Linn County Food Pantry with a Turkey Trot in Meadville put on by the Meadville Lions Club organization. Participants are invited to gather at the intersection of West Crandall and Linn Street for registration starting at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 28 starting at 106 West Crandall in Meadville city limits.

The registration fee is $25 per person, a flat rate regardless of age. Funds raised from the event will go directly to support the Linn County Food Pantry, making a meaningful impact in the community.

Cultural Corner Hosts Quilt & Sew Club for Local Craft Enthusiasts

Kids Christmas Event to be Held at LivCo Courthouse

Main Street Chillicothe is excited to announce the upcoming Kids Christmas event at the Livingston County Courthouse in Chillicothe, where children are invited to participate in a festive shopping experience.

On Dec. 6 from 4-6 p.m. kids ages 4 to 14 will have the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts for their loved ones. Helper elves will be on-site to assist young shoppers, while local downtown merchants will offer specially-priced gifts for under $15.

In addition to shopping, children can create Christmas cards while their purchases are wrapped free of charge, making for a memorable experience.
