Nathan Cupp, a 2022 Marceline High School graduate in his third summer of playing college-level, wood-bat baseball with the Chillicothe Mudcats, was one of the heroes of Monday night’s 3-2 MINK League playoffs quarterfinal win at Sedalia. Cupp, seen batting in an early-season game at Trenton, had three singles, including run-scoring hits in the second and eighth innings, and picked off a runner at second base for the first out of the sixth to help keep the host Bombers from taking the lead in the July 22 contest. His eighth-inning hit to right-center field delivered Jorey Anderson from second base with what stood up as the decisive run in the Mudcats’ first postseason victory since 2019. The team will travel to Clarinda, Iowa, tonight (July 23) to face the A’s in the league playoffs semifinal game. (BUTCH SHAFFER/C-T FILE PHOTO)
