2025 Chillicothe Mudcat Rafael Calcaño goes into his slide ahead of the arrival of the catcher’s throw to second base on a steal attempt in the sixth inning of the second game of the Mudcats’ home doubleheader against the Clarinda (Iowa) Athletics June 29. The throw ended up going behind Calcaño, allowing him time to try for third base. When the late throw there also got away, the runner scored the tiebreaking run in what became a 7-3 Chillicothe victory. It was the second time in three games and three days that Calcaño had scored from first base on an otherwise innocuous play. At Clarinda, he’d circled the bases on a successful sacrifice bunt to the third baseman when third base initially was left undefended and then home plate was when the catcher covered third.
