Laprade to serve as Grand Marshal for 78th Annual Holiday Parade

The Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce George Laprade as the Grand Marshal for the 78th Annual Holiday Parade, themed “Peace on Earth.” The community tradition will take place tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m., in downtown Chillicothe,.

A devoted family man, veteran, and community advocate, this year’s Holiday Parade Grand Marshal George Laprade embodies the spirit of service and community that defines this year’s theme. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and raised in Massachusetts, George served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, including a tour in Vietnam and assignments across the globe. His station as an Army recruiter brought him to Chillicothe in 1978, a community he and his wife, Melinda Sue, later chose to call home after his retirement from the military.

“George Laprade’s dedication to his family, his country, and his community makes him the perfect choice as Grand Marshal for this year’s parade,” said Crystal Narr, Executive Director of the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce. “From his distinguished military service to his tireless efforts on behalf of veterans and his involvement in countless local organizations, George serves as a messenger of all that we’re celebrating this holiday season.”

Following his military career, George worked as a locomotive engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad and continued to enrich the Chillicothe community through his involvement with veterans’ organizations, including serving as Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and helping establish the Livingston County Veterans Association building. His efforts also led to the creation of the Veterans Memorial at the Livingston County Courthouse and the popular Hometown Heroes Banners project.

Beyond his contributions to veterans, George’s love for sports and community is evident through his active participation in local athletics and organizations like the Knights of Columbus, Elks, and Chillicothe High School Booster Club. His enduring dedication to Chillicothe has left an indelible mark on the city and its residents. However, his most prized accolade is that of his family with three children, six grandchildren, and now one great-grandson.
