Library Announces Upcoming Events

George and Rosina Harter named Volunteers of the Year.

CHILLICOTHE – The Livingston County Library is offering a variety of engaging events this May, bringing fun, creativity, and community spirit to the forefront for local adults.

Craft lovers can sign up for the “Sassy Pot-Heads Workshop,” a humorous and hands-on session where participants turn plain ceramic pots into fabulous, personality-packed “pot-heads.” Attendees will jazz up their pots with bandanas, sunglasses, lashes, and earrings—basically giving their plants a diva-worthy makeover. The adult-only workshop will be offered at noon and 6 p.m., and all materials are provided. No experience is needed, just a good sense of humor and creativity. Spots are limited, and those interested can call 660-646-0547 to sign up.

For those seeking adventure, Dungeons & Dragons for Adults returns to the second-floor courtroom on May 14 and May 28 from 5–7 p.m.. Newcomers and seasoned players alike are welcome to join the story, guided by an expert Dungeon Master. Whether you’re a rogue, wizard, or someone who doesn’t know what a “perception check” is, you’re invited to join in the chaos, laughter, and epic roleplay.

The county library has also announced its theme for the summer reading program, which will be held through the Lillian DesMaries Youth Library this summer. In an event to kick off the ‘Color Our World’ program, a kick-off will be held in the Kelly Poling Arts District on May 31 with a Chalk it Up Chilli event from 9 a.m.-noon. Chalk will be passed out to attendees to write inspirational messages and doodles on the streets and sidewalks. Main Street Chillicothe’s Main-iacs youth volunteer group will also be in attendance at the event to help create art projects with kids. As part of the themed summer reading program, a color foam party is set for June 3 at the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe. There will be foam cannons and it’ll be like a large bubble bath. Attendees are recommended to wear play clothes or bathing suits when attending the foam party.

There is also a youth reading program for the summer which includes kids up to the age of 18. There are four different age groups which attendees are divided up among and each will have different programs and presenters. There are bingo cards and reading logs and even programs for adults. At the end of the program there will be a prize drawing as well as other giveaways and free crafts throughout the summer. These events through the summer are free of charge and open to anyone.

In addition to the exciting events, the Livingston County Library also honored its 2025 Volunteers of the Year, George and Rosina Harter. Known for their unwavering support, willingness to help on short notice, and joyful presence, the Harters have become beloved fixtures at library events like BooFest and book sales. During the COVID-19 shutdown, they lifted spirits through cheerful outdoor photo shoots, reminding the community that better days were ahead. As a token of appreciation, a book has been added to the Teen Library collection in their honor.

With creativity, community, and a touch of adventure, and a hint of color, the Livingston County Library continues to be a vibrant hub for adults of all interests and all reading levels this spring.
