Meadville PTO Hosts “Kindness for Disabilities” Fair to Raise Awareness & Understanding Among Students

The Meadville Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) has announced the upcoming Kindness for Disabilities Fair scheduled for Nov. 15 at the Meadville Community Center. This impactful event, aimed at students in grades K-6, will run from noon to 3:30 p.m. and is designed to promote understanding, empathy, and inclusion for people living with disabilities.

Coinciding with World Kindness Day on Nov. 13, this event will feature five interactive stations, each offering students hands-on activities to experience and learn about different disabilities. The activities are crafted to give students a glimpse into the daily challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, focusing on areas such as physical and sensory impairments, learning disabilities, and communication barriers.

Stations will include:

Learning Disabilities – Activities like “Brain Scatter” and “Mixed Up” to simulate dyslexia and other learning challenges.

Physical (Gross Motor and Fine Motor) Impairments – Stations for gross and fine motor tasks to illustrate upper and lower limb impairments utilizing gloves or a wheelchair.

Vision Impairments – Experiences like “Blurred Vision” and “Braille It” to help students understand visual challenges.

Linn County Health Department Interactive Station – A team-based activity highlighting communication and mobility difficulties.

Meadville PTO has organized the event with the help of parent volunteers, the Linn County Health Department, and special educators from Verelle Penistons State School. Students will be divided into smaller groups allowing them to efficiently rotate through each station for a complete interactive experience.

“Through this event, we hope students gain a deeper respect and empathy for those living with disabilities. Understanding these challenges firsthand can build a more inclusive and supportive community,” said a Meadville PTO spokesperson.

The Kindness for Disabilities Fair is free to attend and is an important step in fostering awareness and acceptance among young students. For further information or to volunteer, contact the Meadville PTO by calling the school at 660-938-4111.
