Chillicothe Mudcat Jonas Sanford, one of the club’s more-successful hitters this month, follows the ball he’s just hit on a 2-outs, hit-and-run play as it loops toward a safe landing in shallow right field in the first inning of game two of Sunday’s “Chuck” Haney Field doubleheader with Carroll, Iowa. A missed throw to third after the ball was fielded allowed the lead runner to score on the play, giving the Fish a 5-2 lead, and Sanford ended up at third base, where he was left. With a last-out comeback, Carroll took the contest, 13-10, gaining a split of the double-dip after Chillicothe had claimed the opener, 10-9, with a last-inning rally of its own.
