Chillicothe FFA members were recognized for their achievements Wednesday evening at the 2016 Chillicothe FFA awards banquet and ceremony at Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center.

Chillicothe FFA members were recognized for their achievements Wednesday evening at the 2016 Chillicothe FFA awards banquet and ceremony at Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center. During the program, $36,270 was awarded to Chillicothe FFA members. Sixty different individuals took home a cash award or scholarship and 195 students received participation medals. Those receiving top scholarships of the night are as follows: Jerry Litton Memorial Scholarship (in the amount of $5,000), Marissa Surber; Jerry Litton Memorial Scholarship (in the amount of $3,000), Lane Bonderer; AFA Scholars (in the amount of $4,200), Victoria Overton; AFA Scholars (in the amount of $4,200), Maggie Resor; DeLaval Employee Scholarship (in the amount of $625), Helena McNamee; Wayne Boon Memorial (in the amount of $600), Colton Hargrave; Rusty and Karie Black Litton Award (in the amount of $500), Aaron Baker; and the Jackie Skipper Memorial FFA Scholarship (in the amount of $500), Robert Parkey. Those receiving National FFA Scholarships are as follows: Georgia M. Hellberg Memorial (in the amount of $5,000), Marissa Surber; America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders (in the amount of $1,500), Maggie Resor; and AGCO (endorsed by the local Ziegler Ag Equipment Dealership in the amount of $1,000), Lane Bonderer. The Georgia M. Hellberg Memorial Scholarship was designated to those individuals pursuing a four-year degree in soil and water conservation. Georgia M. Hellberg, through her estate, and for her interest and support in the preservation of land and the agricultural heritage of the country, provides this scholarship. The America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders Scholarship is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. Each applicant must have local farmers nominate them to be eligible to receive this honor. The Chillicothe FFA Chapter would like to thank local farmers that nominate Chillicothe FFA students for this scholarship opportunity: Jim Schreiner, Tyler Jones, Lance Williams, David and Carla Williams, Anthony and Leda Schreiner and Charles and Sherry Jones. The AGCO scholarship endorsed by the local Ziegler Ag Equipment Dealership was designated to those individuals pursuing a degree or specialized training certification in any agricultural major. Applicants had to be from an eligible chapter as identified by dealer. The Chillicothe FFA would like to thank the local Ziegler Ag Equipment Dealership for partnering with the National FFA Organization. AGCO is a global leader in design, manufacture and distribution of agricultural equipment. Contest awards: Freshman, $350; Sophomore, $250; Junior, $550; and Senior, $100. Class awards: Freshman, $855; Sophomore, $825; Junior, $375; and Senior, $275. Scholarship: Junior, $4,065. Participation Awards were distributed to 195 students. The freshman class had 100 percent participation (49 received a gold participation medal and 15 received a silver), the sophomore class had 91 percent participation (47 received a gold medal and 6 received a silver), the junior class had 89 percent participation (34 received a gold medal and 8 received a silver), and the senior class had 86 percent participation (25 received a gold medal and 11 received a silver). As a chapter, there was 92 percent participation (155 received a gold medal and 40 received a silver medal). A tribute was made to long-time ag teacher, Rusty Black, last night as well.
