Cultural Corner announces Meet the Artist Candace Castle and closing reception to take place this Friday, March 30, from 5 until 8 p.m. The Candace Castles exhibit, Earth, Sky & Between, offers more than 50 pieces and features art from three different mediums; pastel, oil and watercolor. “Art is how I express my sensory and emotional impressions of the natural world and places we inhabit,” Castle said. “I work in multiple mediums and love each for its own unique characteristics: the atmospheric transparency of watercolor, the brilliant colors of pastel and the depth and richness of oil. Growing up in an Air Force family living and traveling overseas influenced my worldview at a young age; my dad regularly took us to museums and my earliest art memory was seeing Rembrandt’s Anatomy Lesson at the Hague. I remember being mesmerized by that painting and it made a lasting impression on me.” Castle is a member of the Missouri Valley Impressionist Society and participates in KC area plein air events: the Brush Creek Artwalk, Stems Plein air and Paint Parkville. She has taught several several workshops and classes at the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art and exhibited 88 watercolor portraits in my 2013 show “Facebook Friends” at the Albrecht Kemper Museum. Cultural Corner Meet the Artist receptions are open to the public and are free admission.
