The Morton Sisters will bring their sweet sounds to Chillicothe this Sunday.

The Chillicothe Area Arts Council’s final show for the 2018-2019 season features the Morton Sisters, a dynamic singing trio from Marshall. Their tight three-part harmony creates a signature blend that takes you back to the sounds of the Andrews, McGuire, and Lennon Sisters. The Sisters enjoy singing a variety of genres and styles that include 50's and 60's, Rock'n' Roll, 60's pop, patriotic, acapella and gospel/christian. The three sisters--Leesa, Rebecca and Jessica-- have always expressed a passion for music. When asked how their musical career began, Leesa remarked, “we’ve always wanted to sing, ever since we were young--guess the opportunity and timing just was never right until a few years ago when we really started singing together again and wanting to make it something serious”.

The sisters agree the most important aspect of a performance is the connection with the audience! Leesa continued, “We love getting positive feedback from our audiences”! Rebecca says during a live performance, their thoughts focus on many things at once such as engaging the crowd, and remembering the lyrics to the songs. There’s really never a moment that you’re on auto-pilot”.

When asked about their inspiration to sing and where they draw their support from, all three agreed—their mother “Sally, without a doubt”. “She’s always encouraged us yet leaves it up to us to decide the direction we want to go with our singing career”. They commented “She’s always been our backbone, our anchor, the force that keeps us going, but it’s never been like “You have to do this”!

The sisters are quick to acknowledge their spiritual anchor is their faith and trust in God and they are committed to their relationship with Him and helping others. When asked how each unique style of singing affects the group, they explain molding the styles together has given them an opportunity to really build off of each other’s talent. Leesa, having a background in opera, stated she’s had to “rein it back a little”, and Rebecca and Jessica agree they have had to “tune in and blend” their voices to sound like one. They strive to tailor their singing depending on the different styles and genres of music, adapting but not losing their unique, signature sound and blending in the process.

The group performs for a variety of venues and organizations—fairs, churches, private parties. They also share their love of music with the nursing homes in their area. Arts Administrator, Mary Lou VanDeventer, said “The Morton Sisters’ first performance in Chillicothe was a few years ago on the “Chautauqua in the Park Stage” and “The Event at Locust & Ann” for the Arts Council. Arts supporters requested the Council bring them to the Dickinson Performing Arts Center for a season show. We are happy to have the girls on stage at a wonderful venue like the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center”. The show begins at 3 p.m., on April 14, however, the box office opens 2 p.m. Adults $15, Students $5, Season ticket Holders admitted free with their season ticket.
