Amy’s Story - A Literacy Foundation

In May, Amy’s Story - A Literacy Foundation, presented area pre-kindergarten students with book bags. Each book bag contains audio recordings and picture books of those stories, enabling children to listen to the stories while following along with the printed words, said Marty Hawkins, founder.

Amy’s Story, is a local non-profit organization, which was founded in memory of Amy Hawkins, daughter of Gary and Marty Hawkins, to support literacy in young children. According to the foundation's website, “Amy loved to read and write and she was passionate about stories, music and drama. She also wanted to help others, particularly young children. With that in mind and with the help of many caring volunteers, this literacy foundation was established in 2005 to place books in the hands of young learners.” For more information about Amy’s Story go to or call 646-1895.
