Sign-up now for Sliced Bread Day, bread competition

During the annual Sliced Bread Days, the Grand River Historical Society and Museum is once again hosting a bread competition. There will be three categories of bread; yeast/sourdough and savory/sweet bread ( banana nut, cinnamon swirl).

Bread judges will be Kent Van Amburg, executive director of the Baking Hall of Fame; Richard Brown, District 27 State Representative; and Chillicothe’s Mayor Teresa Kelly.

Entry forms can be found at the Grand River Historical Society and Museum 1401 Forest Dr., or call 646-1341 for more information.

Bread and entry forms are to be dropped off between 8 and 11 a.m., on July 6. Judging will begin at 11:30 a.m., and winners will be announced at 2 p.m., with presentation of awards, followed by bread machine demonstration using the museum's own Oliver 777 bread slicer. All entries will be cut ready for tasting by the general public.

The museum will also be open special hours between 11 a.m., and 4:30 p.m., on July 6.
