MRTA presents grants to local teachers

Gay Dittemore, Regional Representative for the Missouri Retired Teachers Association (MRTA) attended the Chillicothe R-II back to school meeting on Aug. 12 to present two Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation Classroom Grants to Chillicothe staff members. The grants were made possible by the generosity of retired teacher Cleo Willard who donated $1,000 of her winning raffle ticket in an MRTA raffle contest last year. Willard, who taught in the Chillicothe school system for 36 years asked that the money be used to fund two $500 grants to Chillicothe teachers following an application process. Present to help present the awards were her nephew, Phil Willard and his wife Debbie, both retired Chillicothe teachers, Janet Zion and Dale Wallace also retired from the local district.

"The Livingston County Retired Teachers and School Personnel would like to congratulate those selected and thank all teachers who submitted a grant application," said Dale Wallace with the Livingston County Retired Teachers. "This organization is once again preparing for a new year of programs and events as they meet on the second Thursday in September, December, March and May. Along with enjoyable and educational meeting programs, members donate time and money to different Livingston County service projects and area needs."

The MRTA motto is "To Serve - Not to be Served".
