Clarence (Cowboy) Martin Brown III, age 74, passed away quietly on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, MN. Clarence was the son of Clarence Martin Brown, Jr. and Betty Jane Parker Brown and was born in Chillicothe, MO, on March 29, 1944. Betty later married Charles Allen Crain, Sr. and Clarence was the oldest of nine children raised by these loving parents. During high school and throughout his life, he enjoyed sports and followed several sports teams with his favorite being the Minnesota Vikings. At an early age, he joined the military and enlisted in the Army. He was stationed in Ft. Benning, GA, but soon learned that was not the career for him. After he returned, he eventually settled in St. Paul, MN, where he met and married Gwen Peoples in 1967. They were blessed with two sons, Jacob Stephen Brown and Clarence Martin Brown IV (Junior), and were married for 12 years. In 1980, he met June Hope Everson, who became his partner for life. For many years, Clarence was known as “Downtown Brown” as he drove a taxicab in St. Paul. He was also known to local residents for the 30-plus years he was an attendant to one of the rides at Como Zoo’s amusement park. He enjoyed working with children and giving them a fun time at the park. Clarence also had a love for anything western and he liked to dress the part, with boots, a buckle and a hat. This earned him the nickname “Cowboy”, which stuck with him throughout his life. Clarence’s hobbies included coin collecting and billiards/pool playing. Clarence was brought up in the church and never lost his Christian faith. Now, he has gone home to his final resting place.
