Hap Hallsted, 67, of Columbia, passed Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018 in his home after a long battle of terminal cancer.
A casual "Celebration of Life" will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the Riechmann Indoor Pavilion at Stephen's Lake Park. Family and friends are welcome to come and share fond memories of Hap.
He was born on August 20, 1951 in Rome, Ga. to Leonard and Eloise Hallsted. Hap married Martha (Cutler) Hallsted on July 21, 1984 in Alliance, Neb. He and his family moved to Columbia in 1992.
Hap spent 50 years working in grocery retail. He had the gift of "Gab". He knew no stranger and he loved carrying on conversations with all people of all ages.
Hap was known for his love and passion for all sports. He spent countless hours volunteering being the Public Address announcer at sporting events for Hickman High School. Whether it was during a football, basketball, baseball or softball game, he became known as the "Voice" of the Hickman Kewpies. For many years he also was the Public Address announcer for the MFA-Break Time Shootout held in January at the Mizzou Arena. Hap had a green thumb, enjoyed working in the yard, and loved being pool side at West Broadway Swim Club.
Left to honor Hap and remember his love are his wife, Martha; his two children, Ryan and Kate Hallsted; three grandchildren; and five nieces.
Hap was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ron; and his sister Phyllis.
Thank you to Ellis Fischel Staff for their compassion and understanding during this long journey.
Hap will be missed by family, friends, and the many student athletes whose lives he touched throughout the years.
